Tamim Iqbal, the former captain of Bangladesh, said that a number of things must be in the correct order for him to return to the national team. In the Bangladesh Premier League T20 event, Fortune Barishal overcame the four-time winners Comilla Victorians by six wickets on Friday at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium thanks in large part to the leadership and critical role performed by Tamim at the bat.
The meeting with BCB president Nazmul Hasan to discuss Tamim’s international career—which he requested the board not to continue under the national contract—is now on hold.
It was anticipated that Tamim, who requested from the board not to be retained under the national contract, would meet with BCB president Nazmul Hasan to discuss his international career; however, that meeting has been postponed for the time being.
“I just want to make one thing very clear. There would be no use for me to simply return and play if a lot of things weren’t in order for me to return,” Tamim stated.
“I would probably play for another two years at this point in my career. Thus, I must inform them of these things, and as I did not have a farewell conversation with them, it would not be proper for me to remark here,” he stated.
“I haven’t had a chance to talk to the new chief selector yet. I was communicating with Jalal Yunus, also known as Jalal bhai. I was willing to speak, but sadly, we were not given the chance. I’m heading overseas tomorrow morning, but perhaps when I get back, we’ll sit,” he remarked.
Being the tournament’s top run scorer with 492 runs in 15 games—a feat that also earned him the man-of-the-tournament award—Tamim continued by saying he wasn’t trying to prove anything to anyone because that would have put undue strain on his shoulder.
“I have experienced many ups and downs throughout my international career. There have been occasions when there have been several discussions about whether or not I would make the team. I wanted to disprove everyone, but in the process, I discovered that I was putting pressure on myself.
“I have had many highs and lows throughout my international career. There have been many conversations about whether or not I will make the squad, and I wanted to disprove everyone. However, in doing so, I discovered that I was putting pressure on myself.
“Look, I might not have succeeded in becoming the top run scorer in BPL this year if I had felt pressure to respond. All that I have done is visible to all,” he declared.
Regarding his BPL team, he stated, “I wanted to create a very good team environment.” “We had an amazing team atmosphere, and everyone’s contributions—even those of the overseas stars—were valued.Even we had our reservations about our chances of qualifying, but we managed to succeed solely because of the supportive team atmosphere,” he remarked.
“The past several months have been quite eventful for me. I talk about the setting since I didn’t want to enter one where people weren’t interacting with one another. The most difficult part was creating that setting. We built a setting where everyone had a role to play and was glad for one another, if you ask me why we won that trophy,” he continued.
“Winning a trophy is undoubtedly fantastic, but this time around there was a different challenge since there were experienced cricket players like Riyad (Mahmudullah) bhai and Mushfiq (Mushfiqur Rahim) and young cricket players like Soumya or Miraj. He continued, praising Mushfiqur’s hands-on style, saying, “They have served this country for a long time, but they didn’t get the trophy, so I had this wish that if Allah gave us this trophy, I would dedicate it to them.”
We sometimes fail to give everyone the credit they deserve. At the beginning of the competition, I asked Mushfiqur if he could handle tasks like field positioning and bowling adjustments. He was really involved, and I have to thank him. Mushfiq deserves the trophy more than I do since he accomplished a lot of wonderful things, the speaker stated.
Mushfiqur said he did not choose to quit from T20Is while travelling to the BPL final. Tamim believed that Bangladesh will gain from Mushfiqur’s shortest-form retirement.
“If he (Mushfiqur) decides to make a comeback .., there are several examples of legendary cricketers who played cricket after coming back from retirement and they way he batted if he decides to make a comeback (in T20Is) it will benefit Bangladesh and nothing can be better than that,” he said.
