Mumbai Indians lose for the third time in a row in the IPL 2024 season as Rajasthan Royals easily defeat them by six wickets.
In the IPL 2024, Mumbai Indians (MI) had their appalling start to the season continue in game number 14. The five-time champions fell short against Rajasthan Royals on Monday for the third straight game. This was the team led by Sanju Samson’s third straight victory.
Mumbai Indians, batting first, could only muster 125/9 in their 20 overs. Due to the damage done by Trent Boult and Nandre Burger, the home team was at one point struggling at 20/4. It was insufficient despite 56 runs being added for the fifth wicket by Tilak Varma and Hardik Pandya.
In the cricket world, Riyan Parag (54*) continued to show off his growing stature by smashing another half-century. The young player led his team to victory with a six-wicket margin, taking first spot in the IPL 2024 standings.
Before their upcoming match against Delhi Capitals, Mumbai Indians need to implement these three adjustments.
3. Nuwan Thushara needs to be drafted for Kwena Maphaka.
Kwena Maphaka, a young South African, has found the IPL 2024 season difficult. He was hauled for 66 runs from his four overs in his maiden match. He removed Yashasvi Jaiswal from the game against RR, but he had no further effect with the ball.
Nuwan Thushara, a rising talent from Sri Lanka, is awaiting his moment to make his IPL debut. The 29-year-old is playing well; in the T20I series against Bangladesh, he recently claimed a hat trick. Mumbai’s bowling unit will gain much-needed depth with the addition of the Lankan pacer. Thus, it will be best for MI to replace Maphaka with Thushara.
2. Tim David has to be moved up in the batting order.
For Australian sensation Tim David, the number five spot is his ideal batting position. When Kieron Pollard played that position for the Mumbai Indians, he was highly effective. David will be better able to judge the circumstances of the match and adjust his strategy if he is also able to bat at number five.
Tim David has batted lower in the order in all three of the games. Hardik Pandya, who has batted at six and served as a finisher for the team in the past, will benefit from this switch as well. The Mumbai Indians’ batting appears to be rigid, thus this might be the best option for the group.
1. More effective use of Jasprit Bumrah
One of the greatest bowlers for his team this season has been Jasprit Bumrah of the Mumbai Indians. When the 30-year-old received the new ball on Monday, he appeared to have a lot of energy from his tea.
During his tenure as team captain, Rohit Sharma has made the best use of Jasprit Bumrah. Bumrah bowled with the new ball for three overs, and for the remainder of the innings, he was all but invisible. Pandya could have reserved at least two more Bumrah overs for the second half of the innings, with Riyan Parag playing so well.
