It was RCB’s third loss in the competition and their second at home, Chinnaswamy Stadium.
In the fifteenth match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) completely destroyed Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). With this loss, Faf du Plessis and company suffered their third tournament setback and their second at home, the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. To earn their second victory of the year and climb to fourth place in the IPL 2024 Points Table, the visitors dominated in both categories.
After winning the toss, RCB decided to field first. There was only one alteration to the starting lineups for both teams: Reece Topley took Alzarri Joseph’s spot in the RCB, and Yash Thakur replaced Mohsin Khan in the LSG. Quinton de Kock took the lead with a 56-ball 81 after hitting three boundaries off Topley in the opening over. KL Rahul came back as captain, but Mayank Dagar sent him back before he could do any harm.
RCB was able to recover somewhat in the middle overs, but LSG reached a competitive total thanks to a quick strike from Nicholas Pooran in the final two overs. With five sixes and a four, the Caribbean power hitter gave RCB a target of 182. LSG was optimistic of the total because of the two-paced surface and the difficult ball to bat. After sending the big three of the RCB (Kohli, du Plessis, and Maxwell) to the pavilion during the powerplay, LSG prevented their opponents from controlling the game.
Highlight of the second innings between RCB and LSG
Powerplay: Overs 0.1 to 6 (Mandatory – 48/3)
Manimaran Siddharth, LSG’s Impact Substitute, was activated, allowing him to initiate the bowling onslaught. Since the left-arm spinner typically caused problems for the RCB top order, LSG substituted Krunal Pandya in the second over, taking advantage of the pitch’s tendency to help slow bowlers. In the third over, RCB skipper Faf du Plessis struck two boundaries off Siddharth, and in the next over, Kohli welcomed Naveen-ul-Haq with a six.
The left-arm spinner subdued the ecstatic fans at Chinnaswamy by taking the valuable wicket of Kohli (22 off 16 balls) in the fifth over. The last PowerPlay over saw du Plessis run out and Glenn Maxwell removed for a two-ball duck by Mayank Yadav, which turned the tide in favour of the visitors.

Bengaluru’s Royal Challengers: 50 runs in 6.1 overs
RCB scored a respectable amount of runs in the first PowerPlay, but they lost three important hitters during this time. In contrast to other games, Cameron Green entered the game at number five and scored 50 runs for the side with a double off the opening ball of the seventh over.
60/4 (9 overs) Royal Challengers Bengaluru is the first strategic timeout.
In the ninth over, Mayank Yadav struck once more, sending Australian all-rounder Green packing for only nine runs. At this point, LSG fully took the lead, and the needed run rate for RCB has exceeded 11. The inexperienced Anuj Rawat and the out-of-form Rajat Patidar are at the crease to save the hosts.
Bengaluru Royal Challengers: 100 runs in 13.3 overs
With a single from their Impact Player Mahipal Lomror, RCB crossed the 100-run threshold. Following Rawat’s removal by Marcus Stoinis in the 13th over, the southpaw was brought out to bat. On the second ball of the fourteenth over, Lomror struck a boundary off Yash Thakur. In the subsequent delivery, he rotated the strike to make the scoreboard read 100/5.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru wins the match with a score of 153/10 in 19.4 overs.
When Mayank Yadav removed Patidar in the fifteenth over, he recorded consecutive three-fors. To offer RCB supporters some optimism, Lomror struck two sixes and a four in the following over that Thakur bowled. LSG held a tiny advantage, needing 59 off the final four overs, but both sides had equal opportunities.

Naveen allowed Lomror to smash two boundaries, but the LSG pacer crushed all dreams when he removed Dinesh Karthik. Even though Bengaluru’s late innings allowed them to tie the game to the very end, the match was already gone. Mohammed Siraj was removed from the game by Naveen, who also took his second wicket of the evening. With just 153 runs remaining in their resistance, RCB lost their third straight game.
