The 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) match between the Delhi Capitals (DC) and the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) will take place at the ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam. In their most recent match at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Kolkata looked fierce as they defeated Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) by seven wickets.
In this tournament, the Knight Riders will try to win their third straight game after winning their first two. Delhi, who defeated Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by 20 runs in their most recent match at the same location, will try to challenge the two-time champions. Delhi had a three-game winning streak over Kolkata in the previous two IPL seasons.
While DC has struggled in the first few games of this season, Shreyas Iyer and his team have appeared disciplined thus far. When it comes to their head-to-head record, the Knight Riders have triumphed 16 times while the Capitals have done so 15 times. These teams have faced off in 32 games. Every time the two clubs have faced off in the 16-year IPL, a high caliber of competitiveness has been seen. Before the fantastic match in Visakhapatnam, let’s look back at the top five DC vs. KKR matches.
The top five DC vs. KKR games in IPL history are as follows:
At the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi crushed Kolkata by 27 runs in Match 26 of the 2016 Indian Premier League, however the game began with KKR putting the Capitals on the back foot. Andre Russell took out Quinton de Kock and Shreyas Iyer in the opening over of the match. Delhi needed someone to stay at the crease and play a significant knock after both openers left.
In times of need, Karun Nair and Sam Billings came to the bat and scored 68 off 50 and 54 off 35, respectively, with their bats. With 34 runs from just 11 overs in the last over, Carlos Brathwaite enabled Delhi to score 186 runs in 20 overs. DC captain Zaheer Khan dismissed Gautam Gambhir and Piyush Chawla in the first powerplay while defending the total.
With the exception of Robin Uthappa, none of the other KKR hitters had a strong will to fight. After the early wickets, Carlos Brathwaite displayed his explosiveness with the ball and broke the back of the KKR batting lineup by taking the wickets of Rajagopal Sathish, Yusuf Pathan, and Suryakumar Yadav. Ultimately, the visitors were dismissed for 159 in 18.3 overs. Brathwaite won Player of the Match for his outstanding all-around performance (34 off 11 balls and 3/47) as DC easily defeated them by 27 runs.
