Even though MS Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings (CSK) team lost the match, he still made his fans happy by accomplishing a number of noteworthy achievements.
Following two dominating victories to begin their 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) season, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) suffered their first loss at the hands of Delhi Capitals (DC) in Visakhapatnam. The Yellow Army failed to reach their lofty aim of 192 by 20 runs, but this year gave CSK fans a firsthand look with their team’s former captain, MS Dhoni, at bat.
Dhoni looked confident when batting at number eight, hitting an unbeaten 37 off only 16 deliveries. Three maximums and four fours adorned the veteran’s feisty innings. Even though the five-time IPL champion was ultimately unable to win the match for Chennai, he still made his supporters happy by achieving a number of noteworthy achievements.

During the DC vs. CSK match, Dhoni acquired ownership of the following four milestones:
- A batter who often scores 20 runs in an over
The former Indian captain smashed Anrich Nortje for 20 runs and four boundaries in the final over of the match (two fours and two maximums). His brilliant hitting in the last over cut DC’s lead in half. It was Dhoni’s eleventh league over in which he scored 20 runs, the highest in the cash-coated competition.
After him, throughout their IPL careers, Rohit Sharma and Rishabh Pant have each scored 20 runs in six deliveries eight and six times, respectively. With five runs each, Virender Sehwag, Yusuf Pathan, and Hardik Pandya are ranked third on the list.
- In the 19th and 20th overs of the innings, the first batter to hit 100 sixes
Dhoni became the first and only batsman to score 100 maximums in the final two overs of an innings with his valiant batting against Delhi in the final over. The Ranchi-born player achieved this extraordinary achievement against Nortje in the 20th over by hitting two sixes. The 42-year-old is followed on the chart by Kieron Pollard (57), AB de Villiers (55), Hardik Pandya (55), Andre Russell (51), and Ravindra Jadeja (46).
- The first IPL wicketkeeper-batter to score 5,000 runs
Thala Dhoni became the first IPL wicket-keeper batsman to reach 5000 runs or more during DC’s match against CSK in Visakhapatnam. The others that come behind him are Quinton de Kock (2812), Rishabh Pant (2737), Dinesh Karthik (4233), and Robin Uthappa (3011).
- The first hitter from Asia to reach 7000 runs in a Twenty20 tournament
In T20 cricket, Dhoni became the first Asian and Indian stumper-batter to reach 7,000 runs. The 42-year-old accomplished an incredible accomplishment by hitting his first boundary of the game, making him the only designated wicket-keeper hitter from Asia to do so.
