KKR was beaten by CSK by seven wickets.
The Chennai Super Kings defeated Kolkata Knight Riders by seven wickets, ending the team’s streak of victories. They had a terrible start, which later established a pattern because the visitors never held the upper hand in the game. Even though Phil Salt was out of the game after the first delivery, Sunil Narine and Angkrish Raghuvanshi had a strong working relationship that kept the ship afloat. But as soon as they were out, wickets began to tumble like cards on a house.
They had severe difficulties in the middle, and strike rate was a big problem. The Shreyas Iyer-led team scored 137 runs in the opening innings, but none of the batters were able to make an impact. Ravindra Jadeja had an outstanding evening with the ball, taking three wickets; Tushar Deshpande also had three dismissals to his credit. With two wickets in his penultimate over, Mustafizur Rahman helped cement his position as the leading pacer in the IPL Purple Cap competition.

Ruturaj Gaikwad, the captain of CSK, was unbeatable in the chase. After taking some time to calm down, the 27-year-old scored 67* runs off 58 deliveries. After making a cameo of 28 runs off of 18 deliveries, CSK ultimately won the game rather easily. With the victory, KKR stays in second place on the points table, while CSK stays in fourth.
Talking Points
- KKR did not comprehend the surface
It was anticipated that Chepauk will deliver a high-scoring contest prior to the game. But following the powerplay, the surface underwent a dramatic alteration, and the KKR hitters were unable to adapt. They pursued spectacular shots, which ultimately lost them wickets and increased the strain on them. KKR was unable to understand that the surface was primarily about dealing with singles and doubles with occasional boundaries. - Theater Admission Jadeja
Early on, Jadeja’s form raised some questions, but he is gradually improving. The all-rounder became the first player in IPL history to reach 1000 runs, take 100 wickets, and catch 100 catches against KKR. He also picked up three wickets and two catches. Given that Jadeja is still considered for the T20 World Cup, his performance is encouraging for the national team.

- Shivam Dube still communicates with selectors
On a night that would go down in history as Gaikwad night, Dube performed flawlessly and gave CSK a comfortable victory. He is one of the favorites to play in the T20 World Cup, and his outstanding run in the IPL 2024 puts pressure on the selectors. Dube has amassed 176 runs at a strike rate of 160 over five games thus far.
What Was Said by Who?
Shreyas Iyer, the losing captain, stated:
It’s deafening out here, but I’ll try to express. We got a phenomenal start in the powerplay, but we lost consecutive wickets. We weren’t able to assess the conditions quickly after the powerplay, scoring runs wasn’t easy. They (CSK) know the conditions pretty well, they bowled according to their plans. Wasn’t easy (for the new batters) to go after them from the first ball. We were trying to construct the innings, but it didn’t fall in place according to the plan. The wicket changed after the powerplay. We were in a comfortable place and we thought 160-170 was a good score, but we lost momentum. We have to go back to the drawing board and got to learn from that. I am glad this happened at the start of the tournament. When we go back, we know our home conditions pretty well. We need to analyse the situations and need to make the best use of it.
Ruturaj Gaikwad, the winning captain, said:
Little nostalgic for me. During my first IPL fifty, similar situation, Mahi bhai was with me and we finished the match. Wicket was slightly tricky, didn’t want to put the side under pressure. Was a 150-160 wicket. With this team I don’t need to tell anything to anyone. In T20 sometimes you need little bit of luck to get going.
POTM Ravindra Jadeja said:
Always enjoy my bowling here. Was just looking to bowl in good areas. I’ve practiced a lot here – if you bowl in good areas, it helps you. Takes time for visiting team to settle down and plan something. Difficult for them to come here and identify the surface.
