Miller laments the Gujarat Titans’ humiliation due to “unlucky, strange” dismissals.

David Miller characterised the Gujarat Titans’ incredible night out, which saw them bowled out for a double-digit score—their lowest-ever IPL total—in front of their home crowd, as “one of those results” and “unlucky”.

Miller only managed two runs before Rishabh Pant made a diving catch behind the stumps, which was one of the moments that helped the Delhi Capitals captain win Player of the Match.

The wicket, in Miller’s opinion, was “bit” sticky, but it didn’t justify the “strange” dismissals that were occurring.

“A few of the wickets were quite unfortunate. After GT lost by six wickets, Miller remarked, “Just strange dismissals.” “Shubman Gill got caught at cover after playing a little too early. He was hitting that for four on another day. Although the wicket was a little sticky, it was by no means a 90 all out.

“We didn’t perform up to standard tonight. You may offer any justification in the world, but ultimately, our cricket game fell short.”

After missing a few games due to injury, Miller returned to the team and said that GT’s powerplay, which cost them four wickets, including his own, was difficult to recover from.

“When you are three or four wickets down in the powerplay, you are not going to win many games. For the bowlers to bowl at least, a score of 120+ would have been acceptable. But less than 100 was simply insufficient.

“Well, it’s one of those things where we were unable to gain any traction. Rashid Khan entered the game with the intention of winning, and he sort of demonstrated that perhaps playing with great intent was the best course of action.

Miller compared GT’s situation to how the team played back-to-back finals despite few giving them a shot, even though this was their third loss in their last four games and did not believe there was any need for concern.

“We got absolutely pumped but the thing is, if we had won tonight, we would have been four from seven,” Miller stated. “To be honest, I didn’t feel like anything went our way in that particular game. As I mentioned a few games ago, I don’t think there are any really concerning places. We haven’t performed to our full ability in one or two games, but overall, I think things are going very well if everyone simply performs to the best of their abilities.

“I believe it comes down to simply checking ourselves out in the mirror to make sure we’re prepared for the following match.

“We were in the finals both of the previous two years, despite everyone writing us off. Thus, all that needs to be done is ensure that each member of the squad does their share, and tonight was undoubtedly just one of those outcomes.”
