In the T20 format, you definitely want to make an impression during the first two overs when the ball swings: Bumrah Jasprit

Jasprit Bumrah has amassed 13 wickets at an average of 12.85 and an economy rate of 5.96 from seven games in the IPL 2024, demonstrating his outstanding form thus far.

One of the most deadly bowlers in the latter stages of a Twenty20 match is Jasprit Bumrah; yet, the seasoned pacer has spoken of his preference for bowling with the new ball and taking advantage of any swing that may be available in the opening few overs.

A key component of the game’s shortest format is bowling at the end. In Twenty20 cricket, picking wickets with the new ball takes a backseat. Bumrah is one of the bowlers who can significantly restrict an opposition’s progress with the new ball, though. In the Mumbai Indians’ match against the Punjab Kings on Thursday, April 18, in Mullanpur, the 30-year-old shared the new ball with Gerald Coetzee and got rid of Sam Curran and Rilee Rossouw in his opening over. Later in the innings, Bumrah returned to claim the crucial wicket of Shashank Singh, and he ultimately finished with remarkable figures of 3/21 in four overs.

Bumrah stated that he prefers to bowl with the new ball in T20 cricket and take advantage of any available swing, at least for the first two overs, following his performance that earned him the Player of the Match title.

“Of course, when the ball does something, you want to react quickly. Since the ball most likely does swing throughout the first two overs in this arrangement. And I do play Test cricket when I want to bowl more. That’s where my drive to bowl more is satisfied. When the ball swings for the first two overs in this format, you do want to make an impact, and I’m pleased to contribute when the chance arises, Bumrah was cited by ESPNcricinfo as saying.

In the IPL 2024, Bumrah has an astoundingly low economy rate of just 5.96 thus far. After his three-wicket performance against Punjab, he now has 13 wickets from seven games this season. Bumrah received the Purple Cap after the game.

Sam Curran, the acting captain of Punjab, encouraged Mumbai to bat first earlier in the day, and the team responded with 192/7. With seven fours and three sixes in an explosive 78 off 53 balls, Suryakumar Yadav took the lead. Ashutosh Sharma (61 off 28 balls) and Shashank (41 off 25 balls) made a valiant effort in reply, but Punjab were always looking at the end of the rope after losing four wickets in the third over. They eventually lost by nine runs after being dismissed for 183 runs.
