In Mullanpur, Gujarat Titans defeated Punjab Kings by three wickets.
The second game of Sunday’s IPL 2024 doubleheader between the Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Gujarat Titans (GT) took place at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur, Mohali. Sam Curran, PBKS’s acting captain, won the toss and chose to bat first. PBKS lost the game by failing to stop their 143-run aim.
Punjab got off to a good start when Curran and Prabhsimran Singh put up a strong 52-run partnership for the first wicket. Nevertheless, the hosts’ run flow was restricted by the riotous GT spinners, which stopped their momentum. After the powerplay, Afghan combo Noor Ahmad and Rashid Khan made big strides, and Indian spinner Sai Kishore gave a brilliant performance. It’s important to remember that even two important members of the Punjab team, Ashutosh Sharma and Shashank Singh, struggled at the bat.
They dismissed PBKS for a low score of 142 in their allocated 20 overs, with Kishore finishing with remarkable figures of 4/33. Mohit Sharma and Noor both took two wickets, however they gave up more than 50 runs between them. Prabhsimran, who struck 35 off 21 deliveries with three boundaries and as many maximums, was Punjab’s top scorer.

GT suffered their first blow in the below-par chase when they lost Wriddhiman Saha in the fourth over. Gill tried to lead the innings but could only muster 35 runs before Kagiso Rabada made an important catch off a bowling from Liam Livingstone. David Miller was easily removed for just four runs, adding to GT’s batting pledges. This left the visitors at 77/3 in 11.5 overs. As for the Impact Player, Sai Sudharsan, he was unable to leave the crease after scoring only 31 runs off 34 deliveries.
Batting down the order, GT’s only promising batsman was Rahul Tewatia. With a blistering 36 off only 18 balls, he was undefeated and helped GT win by three wickets as they successfully chased down the mark in 19.1 overs. Even though they lost, PBKS showed potential by extending the game to the last over, which also revealed GT’s hitters’ present form. Furthermore, bowler Harshal Patel stood out for PBKS, finishing with outstanding figures of 3/15 in his three-over performance.
