The umpire’s denial of Rahmanullah Gurbaz’s request to replace Sunil Narine as a backup fielder was the cause of the argument.
Gautam Gambhir, the coach of the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and a former Indian cricket player, gained notoriety lately after he was spotted giggling with the fourth umpire during the team’s match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. On Sunday, April 21, the 36th game of the competition saw a fierce match between both teams.
After speaking with the umpire, KKR captain Shreyas Iyer was spotted at the dugout staring at Gambhir prior to the start of the 18th over of the second innings. As soon as Gambhir saw Iyer, he got up, darted over to the fourth umpire, and got into a heated confrontation. Notably, Chandrakant Pandit, the head coach of KKR, also assisted him in the process.
The issue seemed to stem from the fact that Sunil Narine had already finished his bowling stint and the Kolkata Knight Riders wanted to insert Rahmanullah Gurbaz as a backup fielder. The two-time champions gave this decision careful thinking in an effort to introduce new players for the last two overs of play.
The on-field umpire promptly rejected Gambhir’s request for the same, though, and the two got into a heated conversation. Consequently, the aforementioned video clip has become extremely popular on social media. Notably, there had already been a lot of discussion about the match following Virat Kohli’s contentious dismissal from the team because of the new “waist rule,” which ruled that the delivery was acceptable and enraged Kohli into a heated confrontation on the field.
