Cricket Australia is keen for Mitchell Marsh to stay at home and complete his rehabilitation and recovery ahead of the T20 World Cup in June, thus the Delhi Capitals will be without the all-rounder for the duration of the 2024 Indian Premier League.
Before sustaining a hamstring injury, Marsh played in the Capitals’ first four games of the season. After the team’s game against the Mumbai Indians on April 7, he left for Australia, with his availability for the rest of the season unclear. Head coach Ricky Ponting essentially announced his absence for the second half of the season a fortnight later. But Marsh is anticipated to be fit for the World Cup, where he will probably lead the 2021 winners.
Ponting stated, “I don’t think he’ll be coming back.” “With replacement players, there’s a cutoff point. As soon as we could, we sent him back to Australia because Cricket Australia was eager for him to begin his recuperation at home.
They have been overseeing his rehabilitation for a few weeks now. It seems like it’s taken him a bit longer than he first anticipated to get over it, based on our conversation the other day. The T20 World Cup wouldn’t be a problem, in my opinion.”
Over his career, the 32-year-old has faced several injury issues. Despite having signed a contract for INR 6.5 crores in the 2022 mega auction, he has only appeared in 21 games over the course of three seasons for the team. Marsh, who was a key player in Australia’s lone men’s T20 World Cup victory, has only amassed 440 runs at a strike rate of 135.80 and an average of 20.95 for the Delhi franchise. In the past three years, he has also claimed 17 wickets.
