Kolkata Knight Riders were defeated by Punjab Kings by eight wickets on Friday at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. PBKS chose to field first after winning the toss. With 138 runs for the first wicket, Sunil Narine and Phil Salt gave the Knight Riders an explosive start. They received respective scores of 75 and 71. With Shreyas Iyer and Andre Russell making impactful cameos, KKR set a challenging goal of 261 runs.
KKR had no idea that the PBKS were prepared to take a risk. A 93-run partnership for the first wicket was forged by Jonny Bairstow and Prabhsimran Singh, who were both in form. After Prabhsimran left for 54 off 20, Rilee Rossouw performed well with 26 off 16. Shashank Singh’s undefeated 68 off 28 unleashed havoc. Don’t forget that Bairstow’s unbeaten 108 off 48 made the record pursuit feasible.
In the T20 format, Punjab’s 262-run chase has smashed all previous records. Thanks to Bairstow’s timely century, PBKS has smashed both the records for the most successful run chase in the Indian Premier League and the most successful run chase in T20 cricket ever.

Let’s examine some of the game’s highlights:
- Prabhsimran gives the shutterbugs a flick
With impressive flair, Prabhsimran Singh struck the first six of the PBKS innings. He was prepared for the onslaught and expected Harshit Rana to provide something more comprehensive. With a quick flick of his legs, the ball went past his deep-square leg and into the six-hole.
- Arshdeep Singh displays steely nerves when dying
Before Arshdeep Singh was sent in to bowl the 19th over of the innings, he had already conceded a lot of runs. With his arc well-defined, Andre Russell was ready to take on any challenge. With all of his experience, Arshdeep blasted a quick delivery that broke the pace. In pursuit of a big grab, Russell gave the catch to Harshal Patel.
- Anukul Roy is taken to the dry cleaners by Jonny Bairstow
When he bowled the last over of the powerplay, Jonny Bairstow was in no mood to spare the young player. In the six balls he faced, Bairstow hit three boundaries and two maximums against the five deliveries of the spinners. In just five deliveries, he conceded 24 runs and gave PBKS a thrilling last over.
