IPL 2024: Match 55, Stats Review: Mumbai Indians have the most hundreds and other MI vs. SRH stats

MI defeated SRH at home in a convincing fashion.

In IPL 2024’s Match No. 55 at the Wankhede Stadium, the Mumbai Indians thrashed SRH despite only moving up to the ninth spot on the points standings.

With the exception of Travis Head (48 off 30), all of the other top-order hitters for SRH were unable to get going when MI chose to bowl first on a surface with swing. Marco Jansen attempted to do some damage with the bat, but SRH was only able to reach 173 thanks to a late burst from captain Pat Cummins (35* off 17). When it came to the ball, Piyush Chawla (3 for 33) and Hardik Pandya (3 for 31) were both at their best.

Despite having a poor start with the ball and giving up too many extras, SRH managed to take three wickets before the five-over threshold. The SKY show then started, though. Then, with some much-needed assistance from Tilak Varma, Suryakumar Yadav (102* off 51) stole the show without giving the SRH bowlers a moment’s respite. The target was then removed by MI in 17.2 overs.

Here are a few intriguing match statistics:

1-Hardik Pandya’s 3/31 bowling average is the highest by an IPL captain for the Mumbai Indians. The prior best was set in 2008 by Harbhajan Singh versus PBKS with a score of 3/32.

1 – The unbroken partnership of 37 between Pat Cummins and Sanvir Singh for the ninth wicket is the highest for SRH at that wicket. The previous best was set in 2022 versus RR by Abdul Samad and Umran Malik with 36.

1-Ishan Kishan dismissed his team’s wicketkeeper for the 48th time. This surpasses Quinton de Kock’s 47 to become the highest for the five-time winners.

3 – The ninth-ball duck by Naman Dhir is tied for the third-longest in IPL history. Here is the complete list of players that scored a duck in at least that many balls:

Nayan Doshi vs. Kochi, Indore, 13 balls 2011
Delhi Capitals vs. Davy Jacobs in 10 balls Shane Watson against. RCB, Chennai, 2019; 2012, 10 balls
Shane Wayson vs. DC, 9 balls, Chennai, 2019
Nicholas Pooran vs. RR, Pune, 2022, 9 balls
Naman Dhir vs. SRH, 9 balls, Wankhede, 2024

The unbroken partnership of 143 between Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma is the highest for MI for the fourth wicket. The previous record was a perfect 131 set in 2015 against KKR by Rohit Sharma and Corey Anderson.

4-Suriyakumar Yadav’s century, which required 51 balls, was the fourth fastest for MI.

2 – Suryakumar Yadav made history by becoming the second Mumbai Indians player to achieve two century. The only other player with two is Rohit Sharma; the other players are Cameron Green, Lendl Simmons, Sanath Jayasuriya, and Sachin Tendulkar.

6-Suriyakumar Yadav scored his sixth century in Twenty20. Only Virat Kohli (9) and Rohit Sharma (8) have more among Indian players. Ruturaj Gaikwad and KL Rahul both have the same amount.
