The 19-year-old wicketkeeper-batter Mohammed Ishaq has been selected by Afghanistan for the 2024 T20 World Cup. Ishaq, who made his T20I debut this season, was included in the Afghanistan team of 15 players that were revealed on Tuesday.
Rahmanullah Gurbaz (wk), Ibrahim Zadran, Najibullah Zadran, Mohammad Ishaq (wk), Azmatullah Omarzai, Mohammad Nabi, Gulbadin Naib, Karim Janat, Rashid Khan (c), Nangyal Kharoti, Mujeeb ur Rahman, Noor Ahmad Naveen ul Haq, Fazalhaq Farooqui, and Fareed Ahmad Malik are the squad members.
In addition to Ishaq, two noteworthy additions to the team from the squad that competed in the most recent T20 World Cup in Australia are Karim Janat and Noor Ahmad. The 20-year-old left-arm spinning all-rounder Nangyal Kharoti, who made his debut for Afghanistan earlier this year, has also been selected.
He gives strength to the potent spin assault that already includes Noor Ahmad, Mujeeb ur Rahman, Rashid Khan, and Mohammad Nabi. Fazalhaq Farooq, Fareed Ahmad, and Naveen-ul-Haq are part of the pace attack. The traveling reserves are Saleem Safi, Hazratullah Zazai, and Sediq Atal.
Afghanistan’s first game of the campaign is scheduled to take place at Providence Stadium in Guyana on June 3 against Uganda. After that, on June 7, they will play New Zealand at the same location. On June 13 and 17, they will travel to Gros Islet, St. Lucia, to play West Indies, and on June 17 they will travel to Trinidad to play Papua New Guinea.
