T20 WORLD CUP 2024 SQUAD

Headlines on Mahmudullah’s return The formidable Bangladeshi World Cup team

Mahmudullah, a seasoned batsman who was left off of Bangladesh’s roster for the 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia, has been called up for the 2024 T20 World Cup in the USA/West Indies.

Najmul Hossain Shanto, the squad’s 15-member leader, would have Taskin Ahmed as his deputy. Due to an injury cloud over the latter, Hasan Mahmud will need to travel in as a replacement for the next Twenty20 Internationals against the United States prior to the World Cup. The selectors, however, are optimistic that Taskin will recuperate in time for the highlight function, so they have assigned him the vice-captain role. Afif Hossain and Hasan Mahmud have been designated as the reserves.

Squad: Jaker Ali, Mahedi Hasan, Taskin Ahmed, Tanvir Islam, Rishad Hossain, Mustafizur Rahman, Shoriful Islam, Tanzim Hasan Tamim, Litton Das, Shakib Al Hasan, Towhid Hridoy, Mahmudullah, Soumya Sarkar, Tanzid Hasan Sakib

Among the team, Mahmudullah’s comeback is undoubtedly the talking point. The 38-year-old returned to the T20I team for the home series against Sri Lanka in March of this year, having not played for the team since September 2022. As a result, Mahmudullah was a constant in the Zimbabwe T20I squad, which put him in the lead to make the final squad. Nonetheless, there was a feeling of doubt about his inclusion considering how capricious Bangladesh’s selection committee is when it comes to experienced players.

The pace assault features Taskin and Shoriful Islam in addition to Mustafizur Rahman. Tanzim Sakib, an all-round bowler, is the team’s fourth seamer and is chosen ahead of Mohammad Saifuddin.

Despite the fact that Saifuddin did not bat in three matches, we paid close attention to him because of his yorker bowling ability. He needs to improve a lot because his yorker bowling was not demonstrated. BCB chief selector Gazi Ashraf Hossain stated, “We noticed that there was a difference in his performance from domestic cricket to international cricket.”

“We were thinking about Saifuddin. As you mentioned, we had a team ready for May 1st and didn’t make many adjustments from that standpoint because of the BPL. The only player who did not advance from that side is Saifuddin,” he continued.

“But Tanzim was ahead of Saifuddin when we looked at what the team needed right now. Between the two, it was a close call. Tanzim Sakib was also a part of the Sri Lanka series. His commitment to excellence and work ethic placed him at the forefront.”

In addition to Shakib Al Hasan’s experience, the team has three possibilities for specialist spin bowlers: Mahedi Hasan, Tanvir Islam, and Rishad Hossain.
