KKR suffered their first-ever loss against CSK this season, with 2.2 overs remaining and six wickets taken.
At Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium on Monday, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) squared off in Indian Premier League 2024 Match 22. After winning the toss, CSK chose to bowl first against a stiff deck. Phil Salt was sent packing by Tushar Deshpande in the first delivery, which marked the beginning of KKR’s troubles. Rebuilding the innings was initiated by Sunil Narine (27 off 20) and Angkrish Raghuvanshi (24 off 18). Ravindra Jadeja dismissed each of them in a five-ball stretch, swinging the momentum in the hosts’ favor.
Shreyas Iyer’s difficult stay came to an end when Mustafizur Rahman, the captain of Kolkata, struck 34 off 32. After three runs, Venkatesh Iyer walked back, giving in to Jadeja and continuing his lean patch. After moving up the order, Ramandeep Singh scored 13 runs. In Chepauk, Rinku Singh’s magic failed to materialize. With 14 balls, the southpaw could only generate nine runs. With his 10 off 10, Andre Russell ran out of gas, and KKR coughed their way to 137.

CSK didn’t hesitate to give up the chase. In 3.1 overs, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Rachin Ravindra have managed to score just 27 runs. After that, Ravindra left, and Daryl Mitchell was moved up the hierarchy. After the pair combined for 50 runs for the second wicket, CSK had put one foot on the victory lawn. After a 25-run inning, Mitchell was removed from the game, and Impact Substitute Shivam Dube joined the game. a 35-run partnership between Dube and Gaikwad, with the southpaw walking after making 28 off of 18.

MS Dhoni surprised Chennai fans by entering at number five. a sight these days seldom seen, and they did not care that CSK needed two more runs to win. After dodging a few deliveries, Dhoni went on strike in the eighteenth over for CSK.

Even though the wicket-keeper batsman managed just one run, Gaikwad’s 67 off 58 was sufficient to win the match for his team. With 2.2 overs left and six wickets remaining, they dealt KKR their first loss of the year.
