IPL 2024: Match 21: Stats Review: LSG vs. GT: Other stats and second-best bowling numbers

Gujarat Titans have lost two straight games, while LSG has won three straight after mounting impressive comebacks after losing their opening game.

The bowlers of the Lucknow Super Giants produced a brilliant display to build up a 33-win triumph against the Gujarat Titans in match number 21 of the IPL 2024, despite only defending 163. While GT suffered their second straight loss and currently sit in seventh position on the points table, LSG has won three straight after dropping their first game, propelling them up to third place.

After choosing to bat first, Umesh Yadav (2 for 22) handed LSG early blows, reducing them to 18/2 in the third over of the session. The innings was rebuilt from the bottom up by captain KL Rahul (33 off 31) and Marcus Stoinis (58 off 43), but Nicholas Pooran (32 off 22) and Ayush Badoni (20 off 11) provided the last push that ensured LSG achieved a fairly auspicious 160.

Gujarat Titans had a great start, going up to 54 on the powerplay after GT captain Shubman Gill was replaced by Player of the Match Yash Thakur (5 for 30). After that, BR Sharath and Sai Sudharsan (31 off 23) were removed by Krunal Pandya (3 for 11) in the same over, and GT lost three wickets for only five runs in the next eleven balls. GT lost all hope when Pandya dismissed Darshan Nalkande in the 13th over, and Yash Thakur expertly finished the job.

130 is the second-lowest IPL total for GT. As a result, they are become the fourth side in IPL history to never be out for a score lower than 100. The other three, Gujarat Lions, Rising Pune Supergiant, and Pune Warriors India, are no longer in existence.

5/30: Yash Thakur’s IPL statistics versus GT are tied for second-best. The best was Umran Malik’s 5/22 in 2022, but Bhuvneshwar Kumar had taken similar numbers against them in 2023.
