“The mood in the camp is fine and we have a game only on May 11, so the extra travel was not a major stress,” stated a team representative.
The Kolkata Knight Riders’ camp recently took a trip from Lucknow, and because it takes around an hour to get from one city to the other, the team had to spend a whole day travelling. A squall that hit Kolkata on Monday night prevented the plane from landing at the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport, which resulted in a delay in their journey.
On Monday night, at approximately 5.45 p.m., the flight left Lucknow and had to be rerouted to Guwahati. The flight left Guwahati at around 11 p.m., headed for Kolkata, but it was swiftly rerouted to Varanasi, where it touched down at about 1.15 a.m. The team arrived in Kolkata approximately one day later, on Tuesday at 5 p.m., following their stay in the city and visit to the Shri Kashi Vishwanath temple.
According to a team official cited by Cricket sport, “the mood in the camp is fine and we have a game only on May 11, so the extra travel was not a major stress.”
To maintain their lead in the rankings, KKR will next play MI.
Speaking of future assignments, the Kolkata Knight Riders will play the Mumbai Indians, the five-time champion team, in their next match. On Saturday, May 11, the 60th game of the tournament will take place at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata between the two teams.
With Hardik Pandya leading the way, the Mumbai Indians have very little chance of advancing to the tournament’s postseason. The team has eight points from 12 games, good for ninth position in the standings after four wins and eight losses.
However, the season is going incredibly well for the Kolkata Knight Riders. With 16 points from 11 games—eight wins, three losses—KKR leads the IPL 2024 rankings and has a higher net run rate than the second-place Rajasthan Royals. KKR will be looking to win another game and guarantee their status in the playoffs as their matchup with MI draws near.
