The game’s tone was altered by Nuwan Thushara’s hat-trick, according to Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain on Saturday. In the fourth over of the run-chase, and his first of the innings, the Sri Lankan bowler stunned Bangladesh’s top order by removing Najmul (one), Tawhid Hridoy (0), and Mahmudullah (0) in consecutive deliveries.
In the process, he became the second Sri Lankan bowler and the sixth overall to take a hat-trick in this format against Bangladesh. Thanks to an outstanding bowling performance by Thushara, the hosts were defeated by 28 runs at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium, allowing Sri Lanka to win the series 2-1.
In addition, Soumya Sarkar (11) and Shoriful Islam (4) were eliminated by the right-arm pacer, who concluded the day with returns of 5 for 20. After the game, Najmul told reporters, “I think so (that over changed the game) and he bowled really well and we must credit the bowler and yes we went behind in that one over.”
“I think if we could’ve played that over well or handled the new ball in a better way, it would have been a different ball game,” he stated. This sort of over doesn’t usually occur, therefore I have to give the bowler credit for his difficult bowling style. However, in such a circumstance, it will be crucial for us to determine ways to reduce the harm.
“His action is different and normally we don’t play such kind of action too often in the previous two matches we handled Patheerana well but initially along with that action there was swing as well but you have to accept these kinds of challenges at the international level and how we have to make a plan how we can play better cricket,” he stated.
He said that there are many good things to take away from the series. “I think he was getting some swing with that action and he didn’t have lot of bounce the action is side-on action and as the ball was keeping low there was swing along with that,” he said.
“There are many encouraging aspects, such as our ability to recover after losing a wicket in both this game and the first one. He was encouraged by Rishad’s bowling and batting, saying, “The way the bowler came back in the last four to five overs in today’s match so there is a lot of positive sign and it will help in future.”
“I think he bowled according to the condition and batting wise it was required because we play with six genuine batsmen and there is an all-rounder so this kind of innings will be helpful in the future,” he stated.
Nazmul continued, saying that having practise in these conditions will benefit them in the World Cup.
“I believe that these kinds of wickets should be used for T20 matches. The hitters know how to chase 170-180-200 runs, and bowlers are realising that you have to bowl well in excellent wickets. This is a terrific way to be ready for the World Cup,” he said.
