Kings score a significant victory; Qalandars finally falter

Quetta Gladiators vs. Karachi Kings

The Karachi Kings defeated the Quetta Gladiators by seven wickets, with Hasan Ali’s four-for-15 effort being the highlight of the match.

By choosing to field first, Karachi dismissed Quetta for just 118 runs, limiting them to their lowest total of the season. With just five balls remaining, Quetta went from being 53/1 to being all out in an incredible collapse, which was sparked by Saud Shakeel’s wicket.

With more than four overs remaining, Karachi easily defeated the goal, led by Tim Seifert’s 49 runs. Karachi finished with six points from seven games, still in fifth place, while Quetta finished in the top two with nine points from seven games.

Brief Scores: Karachi Kings 121/3 in 15.3 overs (Seifert 49; Malik 27*) defeated Quetta Gladiators 118 in 19.1 overs (Shakeel 33, Hasan 4-15) by 7 wickets.

Islamabad United vs. Lahore Qalandars

In their eighth game, Lahore Qalandars defeated Islamabad United by 17 runs to record their first victory of the year.

Lahore was sent in to bat and was behind 30/3 by the seventh over when skipper Shaheen Afridi made the bold decision to step up and hammered 30 off of only 14 balls. With a patient 64 off 44 balls, Rassie van der Dussen steadied the innings and made sure the total was competitive. Thanks to David Wiese’s cameo, 64 runs were scored in the final five overs.

When Shaheen chose Alex Hales in the first over, the defence got off to the ideal start. The score was 38/6 thanks to Colin Munro’s run out and Zaman’s Khan’s twin strike, however Faheem Ashraf’s 41* was always going to make it difficult to recover from there.

Brief Scores: Islamabad United 145 in 18.5 overs (Faheem 41*, Azam Khan 29; Zaman 4-37) lost to Lahore Qalandars 162/7 (van der Dussen 64; Raees 2-19) by 17 runs.
