Today’s appeal resulted in the release of former Nepal captain Sandeep Lamichanne, who had been facing a lengthy prison sentence due to a rape conviction. The Patan High Court overturned Lamichanne’s conviction today, Wednesday, May 15, which had been rendered by the Kathmandu District Court a year ago.
After being found guilty of raping an unidentified woman in 2022, Lamichhane was facing eight years in prison and a fine of half a million rupees. However, he was placed on provisional release while his appeal to Nepal’s highest court was being handled. On Wednesday, May 15, the court issued its verdict, clearing the legspinner.
