Even while North Pakistan has sent terror advisories to the Caribbean islands over the global event, Cricket West Indies (CWI) has worked to allay concerns about potential security threats to the Twenty20 World Cup.
According to Jonny Graves, CEO of the CWI, “we work closely with authorities in the host countries and cities, and continually monitor and evaluate the global landscape to ensure appropriate plans are in place to mitigate any risks identified to our event,” he said on Sunday night to Cricket sport.
The alert states that, “Pro-Islamic State (IS) media sources have launched campaigns inciting violence against sporting events, which included video messages from the Afghanistan-Pakistan branch, ISKhorasan (IS-K) which highlighted assaults in numerous countries and urged supporters to join the battlefield in their countries.”
The police are monitoring possible threats to the World Cup, according to Caribbean media reports. “We want to assure all stakeholders that safety and security of everyone at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup is our number one priority and we have a comprehensive and robust security plan in place,” Graves added to this website.
From June 1 to June 29, the US and the West Indies will host the Twenty20 World Cup.
Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, Keith Rowley, was quoted in the Daily Express as saying that security services and Caricom are battling the threat to the World Cup. According to additional reports, regional security officials in Barbados are keeping an eye out for any threats to the ICC event.
According to reports, the media outlet “Nashir Pakistan” has obtained intelligence about a possible danger to the World Cup from the Pro-Islamic State (Daesh). Daily Express claims that Nashir-e Pakistan is a propaganda channel linked to the Islamic State group.
The West Indies’ Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Guyana, Saint Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, and Trinidad and Tobago will host the World Cup matches. Although there are matches in the US cities of Florida, New York, and Texas as well, there is no sign that the games there are in danger. The final is scheduled for Barbados, while the two semifinals will take place in Trinidad and Guyana.
Upon being contacted, the ICC stated that the CWI’s statement aligns with theirs.
