It was no accident that Gaikwad rose to the position of leadership. It was the result of a voyage that was entwined with guidance from the renowned MSD.
The Indian Premier competition (IPL), a competition renowned for its dramatic flips and turns, has seen the unfolding of yet another compelling story. This time, the focus is on Ruturaj Gaikwad, the recently selected captain of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK).
It was no accident that Gaikwad rose to the position of leadership. It was the result of a voyage entwined with guidance from none other than the legendary MS Dhoni, the former captain of CSK. Gaikwad disclosed that Dhoni had made suggestions to him in 2022 regarding the leadership role, paving the way for his eventual promotion.
“I don’t wish to embody any certain type of persona. simply enjoy letting things go with the flow. Maintain the CSK’s culture essentially. That’s how I feel. I want to keep what we have been doing and the success we have had just as it is. That’s what has been going on since I joined CSK, so I just want to go there, make my own decisions, and give as much freedom as I can. I’m having fun and nothing is really changing,” Ruturaj remarked, as reported by ESPN Cricinfo.
His remarks reveal a strong dedication to maintaining the core values of CSK, a franchise with a rich history built by legends like Dhoni. Gaikwad has a refreshingly simple approach to leadership: stick to who you are while maintaining the successful formula.
There are several things that the general public isn’t very aware of: Gaikwad
However, Gaikwad encountered certain difficulties on his voyage. He was benched in his first IPL season and went on to become a mainstay of the CSK batting lineup, but his perseverance and the team’s unfailing faith in him have been invaluable. In his reflections, Gaikwad provided an understanding of the intricacies of his dual roles as batter and captain.
There are some things that the general public isn’t truly aware of. The three or four games we started the previous year were played in Ahmedabad, Chennai, Mumbai, and Chennai once more. Those were all flat-wicket games. Thus, in my opinion, the pitch is quite important. In my first game of the season, I felt like I was off to a strong start and had a good ball (out for 15). The second game was the same, I believe. I had a strong start but had to pick up a little speed since you usually make a mistake there [out for 46]. And in the third game, I was feeling extremely good, even though the second ball isn’t doing much [out for 1].
“There are periods of time when you get good balls. There are moments when you are extremely unlucky. There are moments when nothing seems to be falling into place. A beautiful shot that finds its way into the fielder’s hands. Thus, there’s really no need for you to consider that. I was never really concerned since I always thought I was in terrific shape, starting extremely well, and in a nice mentality. Additionally, captaincy differs greatly from batting in that regard. We were chasing 140 when I played my first game for CSK, or the first fifty runs I scored there, and I guess it was a similar kind of circumstance then as well. I always wanted to go through to the end and make sure I finished the innings in the same manner. Whether I am captain or not, nothing really changes,” he continued.

But even in the middle of the tactical dodging and strategic calculating, Gaikwad stays grounded, cherishing the time he spends with his teammates, particularly the great Dhoni.
One thing is clear as CSK continues to pursue another IPL championship under Gaikwad’s leadership: the spirit of the yellow brigade, fostered by players like Dhoni.
